Preview of Saturday Night's Main Event

On Saturday March 18, Saturday Night’s Main Event returns to TV after a hiatus of over a decade. The event will be taking place at The Cobo Arena in Detroit, MI. The show will be broadcast live on NBC from 8 - 10 PM EST in the U.S. and Citytv in Canada. It will be shown on tape delay on the West Coast.
This show will be used to promote WrestleMania 22 which takes place on April 2. WrestleMania is the biggest event of the year. If it has been a while since you have seen wrestling, the WWE (formerly known as the WWF) has split their company into two distinct brands. They are RAW (seen on USA on Monday nights) and SmackDown! (seen on UPN on Friday nights).
The Matches
SmackDown! vs RAW WrestleMania main events: World Heavyweight Champ Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio, & Randy Orton vs WWE Champ John Cena & Triple H
Events Leading to this Match: In two weeks, these teammates will be facing each other at WrestleMania and there is no love lost between these partners. As much as these partners dislike each other, their brand loyalty might be enough to work together in this match. If their partner happens to get hurt, they would be at a great advantage in their WrestleMania match.
Street Fight: Shawn Michaels vs Shane McMahon
Events Leading to this Match: Shawn will be facing Shane’s father, Vince McMahon, at WrestleMania. For the past few months, Shane has been attacking Shawn from behind when his father appeared to be in danger. In recent weeks Shane has cost Shawn a title shot by interfering in The Royal Rumble, humiliated Shawn by making an unconscious Shawn kiss his dad’s exposed backside, and pinned Shawn in a match after his sister, Stepahnie McMahon, slipped drugs into Shawn’s water. The rules of a street fight stipulate that neither man can be disqualified or counted out.
Booker T vs The Boogey Man
Events Leading to this Match: For the past few weeks, The Boogey Man has been scaring Booker T and his wife with his mysterious antics. The Boogey Man is a freaky individual that likes to eat worms during his matches. This match has no WrestleMania imlications.
Beer Drinking Contest: Steve Austin vs JBL
Events Leading to this Contest: Steve Austin has not been seen on WWE TV since October. In a recent interview he did for WWE.com about Texas wrestlers, he had nothing good to say about JBL. JBL says that he beats people at what they do best and he says that all Steve can do with his broken down body is drink beer.
Women’s Champ Trish Stratus & Mickie James vs Candice Michelle & Victoria
Events Leading to this Match: Mickie James replaced Torrie Wilson in this match. Torrie & Candice are former friends that are jealous over who had the hotter Playboy cover. Torrie suffered a concussion and had to be replaced. Mickie has been a friend of Trish that was bordering stalking her. Two weeks ago, Trish told Mickie that they needed some time away from each other. Mickie offered to help her out in this match and promised that they would go their separate ways once this match ended.
The Cutting Edge with special guest Mick Foley
Events leading to this: The Cutting Edge is a former talk show, in the tradition of Piper’s Pit, hosted by Edge. Edge and Mick Foley will be fighting each other in a hard core match at WrestleMania. Edge blames Mick Foley for costing him the WWE Championship due to his officiating in a title match. Edge has made it a point to mention how Foley has never had a great WrestleMania moment in his illustrious career while he is undefeated at the big event.
Jim Ross returns to the announce table
Events leading to this: The legendary announcer will return to the announce table for the first time since being fired by the McMahon family in October. Like Shawn Michaels, JR is an unwilling member of the Vince McMahon “Kiss My A**” Club. Vince brought JR back to commentate the Shane McMahon vs Shawn Michaels match.
