2/20 RAW Recap
Monday February 20, 2006
Before I get to the recap, I have a slight correction to make to a previous blog post. In addition to the TNA Genesis DVD and WWE Legends book being released tomorrow, the WWE Divas DVD, Divas Do New York, will also be released tomorrow.
The winner of tonight’s main event will be facing John Cena in a WWE title match at WrestleMania. The match is a triple threat match between Rob Van Dam, The Big Show, and Triple H. Tonight’s action also features a major title change and the reunion of a major tag team from WWE history. It was also announced that Eddie Guerrero will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
#1 Contender’s Battle Royal for the Women’s Championship: Maria vs Candice Michelle vs Mickie James vs Torrie Wilson vs Victoria vs Ashley - Prior to the match, Trish Stratus comes out to scout the match. Torrie is eliminated by Candice. Victoria is eliminated by Ashley & Maria. Mickie eliminates Maria. While Mickie & Ashley are battling near the ropes, Candice sneaks up and eliminates both of them to win the match. After the match, she starts talking about how she will be the next champion when Edge’s music comes on. Winner: Candice Michelle
- After the match, Edge enters the ring with Lita. He complains that he was screwed by Mick Foley. He then announces that he will be fighting “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan as an example of what happens to legends that mess with him.
Edge w/Lita vs “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan - When Duggan has the advantage he attempts his football tackle but Lita grabs his leg. The distraction allows Edge to hit the spear to get the win. After the match, Edge hits Hacksaw with his 2x4 in the groin. He then gets on the mic and challenges Mick Foley to a match at WrestleMania. He demands that Foley answer his challenge next week. Winner: Edge
Kane vs Chris Masters - Masters attempts to apply the master lock on several occasions but Kane keeps reversing it. Kane whips Masters into the ropes and hits him with a big boot to the face to get the win. After the match, Masters attacks Kane and applies the master lock and Kane couldn’t escape it. Winner: Kane
- The Spirit Sqaud is in Vince McMahon’s office. He makes a 4 on 1 match between The Spirit Squad and Shawn Michaels. When the 5th member of The Spirit Squad asks Vince if he can make it 5 on 1, Vince says that 5 on 1 wouldn’t be fair.
I-C Title: Champ Ric Flair vs Shelton Benjamin w/his mama - In the back, Shelton dedicates the match to his mama who comes to ringside in a wheelchair and with an oxygen mask. Flair traps Shelton in the figure 4 but escapes by reaching the ropes. Seeing her son in the figure 4 has made her heart week and the ref calls EMT’s to help her outside the ring. With the ref preoccupied by mama, Shelton uses her oxygen tank on Flair and then hits the T-Bone Suplex on Flair to get the win and become the new champion. Winner and new champion: Shelton Benjamin
- Footage of Stacy Keibler advancing to the finals of Dancing with the Stars 2 is shown.
The Spirit Squad (Nick, Kenny, Mikey, & Johnny) vs Shawn Michaels - This is a 4 on 1 match and is also the RAW debut match for the Spirit Squad. The rules of the match stipulate that The Spirit Squad members must tag in and out of the match so it is always 1 on 1 in the ring. Shawn hits the sweet chin music on Mikey but every member of the team enters the ring beats Shawn up. Shawn’s old tag team partner, Marty Jannetty, enters the ring to make the save. Vince is shown in the back and he looks very angry. Winner: Shawn Michaels by DQ
Carlito vs Nick Burk - Carlito grabs the ring mic and beats up his opponent while saying that he has an idea for WrestleMania that is money in the bank. Winner: Carlito
- On WWE Unlimited, Matt Striker comes out and informs the crowd that there is an article about him in the newest edition of GQ magazine.
- It is announced that Eddie Guerrero will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
- Vince McMahon comes out and says that next week he will present Marty Jannetty with a full time contract. Prior to getting the contract, Marty must first join the Vince McMahon Kiss My A** Club. For those unfamiliar with this club, Vince will drop his pants and force Marty to do what the club is named after.
Winner Gets WrestleMania Title Shot: Rob Van Dam vs The Big Show vs Triple H - TBS thoroughly dominates the beginning of this match. RVD & HHH finally double team TBS but he retaliates with a double choke slam. A few minutes later, Triple H hit TBS with a chair and then the pedigree bit RVD broke up the pin attempt. RVD then hit the 5 star splash but Triple H grabbed the ref and wouldn’t let him make the count. Triple H then hit the pedigree on RVD to get the win. After the match, John Cena entered the ring and the show ended with him & Triple H face to face. Winner: Triple H
