Tonight’s show features a #1 contender’s match between Mark Henry and Rey Mysterio for the right to fight Kurt Angle at The Royal Rumble. In other action, Randy Orton defends Booker T’s U.S. Title and Kurt Angle fights his former manager.
JBL w/Jillian Hall vs Bobby Lashley - Jillian Hall has a big bandage on her cheek to cover the removed growth that The Boogey Man ate last week. Lashley dominates most of the match but is hit with the clothesline from hell from out of nowhere. The Boogey Man’s music comes on and he appears from under the ring behind JBL. This distraction allows Lashley to hit The Dominator to get the pin. Winner: Bobby Lashley
- Kurt Angle is in the back. He bumps into Rey Mysterio who says that he will fight him after he beats Mark Henry in a #1 contender’s match tonight. They seem friendly towars each other. Angle shakes a few more hands before he sees Mark Henry. Henry stops Angle’s progress and says that last week was a fluke and he’ll beat him at The Royal Rumble. Angle warned him to never get in his way again.
- Jillian Hall is in Teddy Long’s office complaining about what The Boogey Man did to her. JBL comes in the office demanding Teddy do something. Teddy Long then makes a match between The Boogey Man & JBL for The Royal Rumble.
- Booker T and Sharmell are in the ring to celebrate his US Title victory last week. Orlando Jordan comes out to stop the celebration. Orlando demands a match right now. He then shoves the injured Booker T to the ground. Teddy Long comes out and says that tonight Orlando Jordan will fight Booker T’s substitute Randy Orton for the title tonight.
Matt Hardy vs Finlay - This is Finlay’s debut match on SmackDown! WCW fans will remember his as Fit Finlay. Since the closing of WCW, he has worked as a trainer for the WWE. This is a good battle between a high flyer and a brawler. When Matt goes for a baseball slide, Finlay traps Matt between the ring apron and the ring. He then beats him up. He puts Matt back in the ring and refuses to break his choke/punching while Matt is on the ropes. After the ref disqualifies Finlay, Finlay grabs the mic and says that he will give the ref a real reason to DQ him. He then smashes Matt’s head in the ring steps. Winner: Matt Hardy by DQ
- Recap of Daivari being fired by Kurt Angle. Daivari is in Teddy Long’s office complaining about Kurt firing him. Teddy Long then makes a match between Kurt Angle and Daivari.
- A video package featuring very graphic footage of Batista’s surgery is shown.
#1 Contender’s Match: Rey Mysterio vs Mark Henry w/Melina - The winner of this match will fight Kurt Angle at The Royal Rumble next Sunday. They are in this position for the title because they were the last and next to last man to be eliminated in last week’s battle royal. Rey hits 3 619’s and follows it with the frog splash. Henry from a pin position just picks up Rey, stands up and gives him the front power slam to get the win. Winner: Mark Henry
- Ken Kennedy comes to the ring and announces his new t-shirt. He doe commentary for the next match.
The Gymini w/Simon Dean vs Paul London & Brian Kendrick - The Gymini win this squash match when they pin Kendrick. Simon now brings a whistle to the ring and blows it continually thorough the match. Winners: The Gymini
US Title Match: Randy Orton (subbing for champ Booker T) vs Orlando Jordan - After several minutes of action, Booker T & Sharmell come to ringside. Booker T hits Orlando Jordan with a crutch while Orlando was on the top rope. Randy Orton hits the RKO to get the win. After the match, Chris Benoit comes to the ring and beats up both Orton & Booker T. Winner: Randy Orton
Kurt Angle vs Daivari - Right before the match starts, Mark Henry & Melina come to ringside. Kurt has Daivari in the ankle lock when Melina jumps on his back. Angle applies the ankle lock to Melina and is then attacked by Mark Henry. After the beat down, Daivari announces that he is now Mark Henry’s manager. Winner: Kurt Angle by DQ
